'Move over, Harry Potter' USA Today. USA Today is right, Harry Potter should move over. It's had it's time in the spotlight, and now another female writer has brought about a lovable group of characters in intruiging circumstances into our libraries.
Bella Swan is the daughter of Chief Swan, the Chief of Police for Forks. At the beginning of the first novel, Twilight, she moves in to her father's house having difficulty in living with her mother and her new boyfriend, Phil. Barely having shaken off the jet lag of the journey to Forks, Bella becomes friends with Jessica and a friendly chap called Mike. Oh, and there's some nerd called Eric too.
These are nice friends, they're the traditional 'Oh, hey - yeah let's be friends' kind of friends; but something catches her eye. A mysterious lad called Edward. Edward Cullen (notice my little almost-James Bond-introduction for someone who must be the most lovable character of the saga).
beautiful as an angel, yet as scary as the worst nightmare. She meets his gaze and blushes. She has to sit next to him in a lesson. The first lesson, he freaks her out. Just a bit. His eyes are pure black. He sits rigidly in his seat for the whole hour. Then disappears out of the classroom. He doesn't come back for a while. When he does come back, he's friendly towards her. His change of eye colour and his sudden friendliness doesn't help her undeniable infatuation with the lad.
'Yawn, boring. Tell us more exciting stuff!' I hear you say - OK then. She falls in love with him. Oh, and he's a vampire. Remember how in the old myths, how they drink blood? This is true. Only the Cullens are 'vegetarian' vampires - they only drink animal blood. Well, try to.
I'm not going to leak any more of the plot. If someone asks me what the book is about, I reply: 'Some girl falls in love with a vampire'. Simple. Although it sounds a simple plot Meyer manages to write the first novel in an intruiging way, introducing us to key characters to come later in the saga as well as giving hints and clues away for the later novels.
Every bit as gripping as the Harry Potter series, this saga is a page-turner if I ever read one. It grips you and forces you to turn the pages. It makes you spend your money on buying the whole saga, it makes you want to become a vampire - oops. I'll stop here for now.
Part TWO to come later. Keep reading & commenting please! :)
Part TWO to include: New Moon, ideas, writing, etc.
Mr Steve -
I actually thought "if he's reviewed twilight, I'm going to beat him until he cannot breathe"
... but I wont beat you, that would be mean. Originality, lad! Twilight makes my head hurt now |:
You should write about what a 2d, Mary-Sue of a character that Bella is.
But your writing is still pretty, Sophie likes c:
Haha, thanks Sophie.
I'll take that into account when I write my next blog. :]
